Every year, India pumps out lakhs of engineers, MBAs, B.Com grads — and most of them are either jobless or underpaid. But instead of fixing the system, we blame brain drain. This post breaks down why it's actually brain distribution, not drain — and what must change.

Every year:

  • 1 million engineers graduate in India.

  • Over 4 lakh MBA degrees handed out.

  • B.Com, B.Sc, BBA? Flooded.

  • Job openings? Meh.

You study 16 years straight.
Take loans. Burn your youth.
Then either end up doing data entry at 15k/month or moving to Canada with an Uber license.

So who failed? You?
Nope.

India’s education system is like a factory stuck on “mass production mode.” Supply is on steroids. Demand? Flatlined.

Every mall has a new B-School, every bylane has an “Engineering College.”
But where are the jobs?

Every other IT company cries “we can’t find skilled workers.”
Then why give degree after degree to students who won’t be hired?

The term brain drain sounds fancy — but it’s misleading.

It implies only the best minds are leaving India.
That we’re losing intellectual gold.
That it’s the country’s loss.

Reality?

People are leaving because there’s no value for their effort here.
It’s not about being “top talent.”
It’s about finding dignity of work and livable income.

So let’s reframe it:

🧠 Not loss.
🧠 Just distribution.

India manufactures degrees. The world absorbs the talent.

📉 Should Government Limit Courses?

Here’s the hard take.

  • If we know there’s excess supply in engineering and MBAs…

  • If we know 75% of graduates are unemployable (as per NASSCOM/ASSOCHAM reports)…

  • Then why allow thousands of useless colleges to keep churning?

Maybe the answer is this:

Limit course seats based on national demand.
✅ Push for vocational training, coding, AI, sustainability, agriculture-tech, etc.
Encourage quality, not quantity.

Just like NEET controls doctor intake based on demand  do the same for engineers and MBAs.

You want to open a liquor store? You need a license.
You want to build a flyover? You need 10 permissions.

But you want to start an engineering college with no labs and no placements?

Go ahead, full freedom.

This is where we’ve gone wrong.

Countries like Germany, Finland, Japan?

  • Link education tightly with industry needs.

  • Encourage apprenticeships.

  • Filter university seats based on market projections.

In India?

“MBA ante mass. Software ante status.”

And that’s how you end up with 60 lakh unemployed graduates.

Let’s stop selling dreams without directions.

  • Not everyone needs a B.Tech.

  • Not every course should be open forever.

  • And not every kid is “draining.” Some are just trying to survive.

If a degree doesn't lead to employment, then it's just a receipt, not a qualification.

  • Shut down zero-output colleges.

  • Make industry internships mandatory in all degrees.

  • Set up national course-demand forecasting.

  • Make AI, EV tech, clean energy, agriculture-tech mainstream.

  • Remove the MBA or failure stigma.
